There is a book in our work library called “365 Ways to Motivate and Reward your Employees Every Day” by Dianna Podmoroff. This has me thinking about all of those sole proprietorships out there who don’t have any employees. The next thought was – Wait a minute, what about you?

In every sole proprietorship – YOU are its most important employee. Without you, well, nothing would get done. Isn’t it time to reward yourself for all the hard work you have put into your business?

Don’t know what to do? Here are some interesting suggestions from the book…

  • Tickets to a gala, sporting event, or other
  • Have a laugh-a-day bulletin board
  • Rearrange your office furniture
  • Award yourself a 3-day weekend
  • Take the family out for a treat
  • Create a theme day once a month and have an activity that goes along with it

As you can see, there are any number of rewards you can give yourself to celebrate your concentrated efforts.

Is there something special that you have done in the past that has helped you to stay motivated in your self-employment? Take a moment to share your experience so that others may benefit from your wisdom!

excellent blog post Jamie! …there are so many fabulous ways to give one’s self a reward, and even if money is tight, creating some regularly-scheduled downtime to go for a walk along the seawall, or to a favourite park can certainly help “shake off the cobwebs” and will go a very long way in helping one feel re-energized and motivated 🙂
